Introduction to Argentine Tango Dancing
What Exactly is Tango?
Real Argentine Tango is . . .
-
A comfortable embrace: The partners frequently transition between open and closed embrace following the music throughout the dance.
-
Improvisation: The dance is largely improvised, with the partners responding to the music and each other's movements in the moment.
-
Rhythmic complexity: The music and dance have a complex, syncopated rhythm that emphasizes skilled footwork and body control.
-
Emotional expression: The dance is often described as a dialogue or exchange of emotions between the partners, with a focus on conveying passion, tension, and connection.
-
Argentine Tango has had a significant cultural and artistic impact, with its influence extending beyond the dance world and into music, literature, and film. It remains a beloved and widely practiced social dance, with a strong global community of enthusiasts.
